Saying good-bye to Sasha Ivanochko and Brendan Wyatt as WCD wraps up our 2012/13 season today (April 28th) with a matinée performance. I know everyone wants to thank Sasha for the past 5 weeks of challenges and the growth that comes from that. It was a fun process too! Thank you Sasha.
The season started with much sadness and then the new year let us turn that into the joy of Toward Light, the Rachel Browne tribute tour. WCD again thanks everyone who helped make that happen in Winnipeg, Toronto and Vancouver. We couldn't have done it without all of that love and support.
We also take this opportunity to thank Tania Alvarado for her participation in early December for the Prairie Dance Circuit and Lesandra Dodson for her visit in late January to present her Trilogy Project. But most of all, a special thanks to all of our funders, sponsors, supporters and those of you who come out to our shows.
While WCD's season is over we still have one more job to do. Our sister organization, The School of Contemporary Dancers, will have it's 40th Anniversary at the end of the month and WCD will be participating. (SCD was also founded by Rachel Browne some years after she started WCD.)
More details about SCD's event in the weeks ahead and you should also stay tuned for updates about our plans for next season.
Until then please do enjoy the weather. ( Finally!)
LOVE & LIGHT
Susie Burpee penned a very touching and well written review of Toward Light online at The Dance Current.
Rachel’s dances are so full of life, so resonant with the dark and light of our existence, that one simply can’t ignore time. We, as viewers, are reminded of the fragility of our own existence, our age and our mortality.
