CALL FOR GUEST ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

WCD is thrilled to offer a new Guest Artist in Residence opportunity!  

WCD invites artists who work in contemporary dance to submit expressions of interest.

Interested artists are invited to submit the following, by email, by November 22, 2020:
–  A one page description of your intent. For example, you may want to include: what you are interested in, what you will be working on, who you are working with, are you working alone, how will WCD assist your project, what will your day look like, anything you would like to share…
–  1-3 video links that support your expression (no passwords please)
–  Your Bio, up to 500 words
– Your artistic resume (1-3 pages)
– 1-3 images that you give permission to be used by WCD to announce residency, if successful, including sharing images and news of your residency on social media
– Budget

Please submit video links in the body of your email and all other information in one attached document. In fairness to all those who are interested, please submit only the requested items.

Your video link may include anything you wish to share as your expression of interest. This could be, but is not limited to, a recent creation, rehearsal footage, a previous performance of your work, or something you are working on. Recent footage is appreciated. Please include all credits and date of filming.

This opportunity is open to established, mid-career, and emerging artists. This opportunity is not intended for student dancers.

Artists are requested to confirm their availability.
Available weeks:  February 01-12, 2021 or March 02-12, 2021.

Selected artists receive studio rehearsal space at WCD from 10:00am-5:00pm each day and an artist fee of $5000, for a two week residency. The Guest Artist in Residence opportunity is intended to support the research and development of contemporary dance-based work, support the work of dance makers, as well as provide opportunities and linkages for choreographers and dancers who work in contemporary dance.

Artists must agree to WCD’s health and safety protocols, which may include physical distancing and mask wearing.   

The Guest Artist in Residence opportunity is an in-studio creation/rehearsal opportunity.  A rehearsal sound system will be provided. This opportunity does not include equipment or personnel, such as, but not limited to: theatrical lighting, technical equipment, or the services of a venue technician or a project manager. Additional studio hours may be available upon request.  

All submissions will be reviewed by Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers and a panel of artists. The panel of artists includes: Jera Wolfe, Tanja Woloshen, and Jolene Bailie.

Applicants will be notified of results early-mid December. Travel stipend may be available. Please note in your application if you require additional support to travel.
